When men challenge patriarchal masculinity
and choose vulnerability instead.

Welcome
We are London based therapist Jerry HYDE, and Paris based film maker Mai HUA.
MAKE ME A MAN is our contribution to the sometimes thorny issue of gender and masculinity. This film was made over three years, in close collaboration with our communities, both online and IRL. We are deeply grateful for their support, rich feedback, and love.
MAKE ME A MAN is a completely independent and self-funded project. The money you contribute helps us continue creating. In gratitude to those who support us by buying the film, we’re offering the soundtrack as an exclusive bonus. To receive it, simply send your proof of purchase to supertimai@gmai.com.
Discover, offer the film, talk about it – the shared human experience remains at the heart of what we do.
Love, peace and gratitude,
Mai & Jerry.

synopsis
Therapist Jerry Hyde has been holding talking circles for men for 30 years. Not to develop their masculinity, but to gain access to their most intimate truth.
Join them, both in their reflections, and on a powerful pilgrimage to the Somme, to the commemoration sites of the First World War.
Funny, tragic, poignant, and above all, viscerally honest, each participant opens up in a raw, precious, never seen before way.

Before action
By all the glories of the day,
And the cool evening’s benison,
By that last sunset touch that lay,
Upon the hills when day was done,
By beauty lavishly outpoured,
And blessings carelessly received,
By all the days that I have lived,
Make me a soldier, Lord.
By all of man’s hopes and fears,
And all the wonders poets sing,
The laughter of unclouded years,
And every sad and lovely thing;
By the romantic ages stored
With high endeavour that was his,
By all his mad catastrophes
Make me a man, O Lord.
I, that on my unfamiliar hill
Saw with uncomprehending eyes
A hundred of thy sunsets spill
Their fresh and sanguine sacrifice,
Ere the sun swings his noonday sword
Must say good-bye to all of this;-
By all delights that I shall miss,
Help me to die, O Lord.

Killed in action July 1 1916.
Et toute chose triste et charmante ;
